Description +

A beautiful hand-mined Shangaan Amethyst crystal from the Chibuku Mine in the Chiredzi area of Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe. This 10g specimen has a particularly lovely lilac-purple colour, with a compact, substantial crystal habit and a naturally formed termination.

The colour is strongest through the upper portion of the crystal, where soft lavender deepens into richer violet around the termination and outer faces. Its translucent body reveals subtle internal veils, natural fractures and fine inclusions, while the broad crystal faces catch the light beautifully and give this little specimen far more presence than its size might suggest.

At the base, remnants of the crystal's natural host material remain attached, preserving more of its original mineralogical character. Combined with its well-defined faces and attractive purple zoning, this makes K a particularly lovely little locality specimen for collectors of natural Quartz and African minerals.

Shangaan Amethyst

Shangaan Amethyst is a highly collectible locality Amethyst found in the Chiredzi area of Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe. This specimen comes specifically from the Chibuku Mine, an area known for producing distinctive naturally formed Amethyst crystals with individual growth habits, colour zoning and internal features.

The name Shangaan Amethyst was introduced in honour of the Shangaan people of the region, who have historically collected these crystals. Shangaan Amethyst is hand mined, making each surviving crystal an individual mineral specimen rather than a mass-produced polished piece.

One of the most fascinating characteristics of Shangaan Amethyst is its variety. Crystals may be slender and almost colourless with delicate violet tips, while others develop broader forms, smoky tones or much richer purple colour. Natural growth lines, inclusions, secondary formations and unusual terminations are all part of what makes the material so desirable to locality and Quartz collectors.

These crystals are collected not simply as Amethyst, but for their provenance. Their connection to a specific deposit in Zimbabwe, distinctive natural formations and hand-mined origin have made Shangaan Amethyst an increasingly sought-after material among collectors of unusual Quartz and African mineral specimens.

In crystal traditions, Amethyst is associated with calm, intuition, clarity and spiritual awareness.
