The Time Traveller’s Herbal by Amanda Edmiston | Herbalism & Folklore

Part herbal, part history book and part journey into the old ways of working with plants.

The Time Traveller’s Herbal by Amanda Edmiston explores centuries of traditional herbal knowledge, folklore and botanical practice through the stories and recipes that have been passed down through generations.

Beginning in ancient Rome and travelling through history into the early modern period, the book explores how herbalists, cunning folk and wise women worked with the plants growing around them long before the arrival of modern medicine.

Alongside the history and folklore, you'll find more than 25 recipes and makes inspired by traditional herbal practices, including:

• Salves and balms
• Herbal teas and infusions
• Tinctures
• Traditional bakes
• Seasonal and foraged preparations

Beautiful botanical illustrations sit alongside stories of the plants themselves, their historical uses and the myths and traditions that grew around them.

Written by trained herbalist and storyteller Amanda Edmiston, this is a gorgeous introduction to historical herbalism for anyone fascinated by apothecaries, plant folklore, traditional remedies and our relationship with the natural world.

A particularly lovely addition to a witchy bookshelf, kitchen apothecary or herbal collection.
