Optical Calcite Sphere with Rainbows | No. 2

A spectacular larger Optical Calcite sphere absolutely filled with natural rainbow flashes, weighing approximately 461g and measuring around 7cm. With its icy translucency, intricate internal structure and shifting spectrum colours, this is one of those pieces that seems to reveal something completely different every time it catches the light.

Throughout the sphere are layers of natural cleavage lines, crystalline veils and fine internal textures characteristic of Calcite. These structures interact beautifully with the light, producing rainbows across multiple areas of the sphere rather than one isolated flash. Depending on the angle, soft pastel iridescence transforms into much stronger bands of pink, violet, blue, green and golden yellow.

Some of the rainbows appear as delicate washes of colour stretching across the crystal, while others form concentrated, almost prism-like flashes within individual internal features. The larger 7cm size gives you plenty to explore, with the depth of the sphere allowing its internal formations to appear layered and almost suspended inside the crystal.

Optical Calcite is particularly fascinating for its relationship with light. Clear Calcite is known for double refraction, where light passing through the crystal can be split into two rays.
