‘Bertha’ | Large Stepped Cubic Fluorite, Hunan Province

Meet Bertha – a substantial stepped cubic Fluorite specimen from Hunan Province, China, weighing 460g and measuring approximately 13cm.

This piece is covered in an incredible formation of interlocking cubic Fluorite crystals, building across the matrix in layers of sharp geometric growth. The crystals range through smoky grey-green and cooler blue-grey tones, with differences in translucency across the specimen creating plenty of depth.

What makes Bertha particularly impressive is the sheer amount of stepped cubic structure visible across the piece. Larger cubes sit alongside clusters of smaller crystals, with repeated square growth patterns, defined edges and layered faces creating a wonderfully architectural appearance.

Turn her around and the character changes again, with darker areas of Fluorite, exposed matrix and densely packed crystal growth giving the specimen plenty to explore from different angles.
